This course provides RNs in acute care settings with essential knowledge for safely administering and monitoring moderate sedation.

Goals and Learning Outcomes:
This course equips acute care RNs with essential knowledge to safely administer and monitor moderate sedation. It covers the ASA sedation continuum, key differences between sedation levels, clinical signs of deeper-than-intended sedation, and the therapeutic goals of sedation. Nurses will learn to respond effectively to patient needs while adhering to their scope of practice and facility policies.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

• Define the periprocedural nursing responsibilities and considerations for administering medications during moderate sedation.
• Identify the levels of the sedation continuum and indications suggesting a patient is deeper than intended.
• Recall the preprocedural considerations and recommendations for monitoring patients receiving moderate sedation.
