Menopausal Hormone Therapy: Is the Pendulum Swinging Back? is organized by Southern Medical Association (SMA) and will be held from Sep 05, 2018 - Sep 05, 2019. This Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

Target Audience :
This activity is intended for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and other allied healthcare professionals specializing or certified in the areas of women’s health, gynecology, obstetrics, internal medicine, family or general medicine, emergency medicine, and preventive medicine.

Goals and Objectives :
Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) was dealt a fatal blow when the results of the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) were published in 2001, suggesting the risk of use outweighed the benefit in most women. However, MHT remains the most effective treatment for menopausal vasomotor and urogenital symptoms. As further evaluation of the WHI and ongoing trials and meta-analysis become available, benefits outweighing risk in a subset of women are becoming apparent. This activity, after a short review of the recent literature, will use case presentations to apply current recommendations, decision algorithms and prescription options for MHT. Upon completion of the activity, providers should be able to:
• Interpret the findings of the WHI and more recent analyses regarding MHT;
• Recognize MHT as a viable option for the treatment of menopausal vasomotor and urogenital symptoms;
• Identify women who would be appropriate candidates for MHT and prescribe appropriate MHT regimens to them.
