Activity Overview:
Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a rare and serious condition that presents with recurrent attacks of swelling in any part of the body. Acute attacks can result in disfiguring edema, significant disruptions to daily life, and mortality from laryngeal edema. Due to the overlap of symptoms with more common conditions, patients may suffer for years without a diagnosis. Once clinicians are aware of the clinical symptoms that create a suspicion of HAE, a diagnosis is readily made.

In this Medical Crossfire®, expert faculty will provide an overview of HAE types and characteristic symptoms, followed by the components of an individualized treatment plan that can help normalize a patient’s quality of life. The efficacy and safety of current and emerging treatments for reducing the frequency of attacks will then be reviewed. Patient cases throughout the activity will facilitate understanding of the disease burden, the symptomatology leading to a differential diagnosis, and management strategies.
