Overview :
This Virtual Expert Roundtable will review the fundamentals of antihyperglycemic therapy in patients who are not achieving glycemic goals with lifestyle changes and metformin. The faculty will discuss strategies to set appropriate HbA1c targets, select guideline-based therapies, intensify treatment with non-insulin multidrug regimens, and engage and motivate patients to be fully invested in their treatment program to reach their HbA1c goals.
Learning Objectives :
• Use current clinical guidelines and best available evidence to develop diabetes treatment plans when lifestyle changes and metformin have failed to achieve glycemic goals
• Appropriately intensify diabetes pharmacotherapy in patients failing to meet goals using an evidence-based, guideline-directed approach
• Discuss recent clinical studies which speak to efficacy and safety concerns so as to select appropriate antihyperglycemic agents where indicated
