Antipsychotic dose reduction in PA/LTC settings has become a priority due to risks associated with their use and national policy initiatives. Clinicians in PA/LTC often face challenges associated with gradual dose reduction of antipsychotics. This session will describe the efficacy and risks associated with antipsychotic use among older adults and will also discuss a 5 step quality improvement process focused on reducing the inappropriate use of antipsychotics in PA/LTC settings. Assessment tools, educational resources, documentation requirements, and strategies to overcome common barriers and motivate your staff will be discussed.
