Description:
This session defines and explores the definition of diversity and how it impacts the PA profession. We discuss integrating the topic of race into the conversation from a place of learning, trust, and openness. Lastly, we dive into how to diversify healthcare practice by having a diversified mind through developing empathetic listening, understanding, and a connection and relationship with patients. 

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify ways to talk about race openly with patients, especially patients of color
  • Identify distinct ways they can learn more about patients from BIPOC communities
  • Identify individual choices that will co-create positive change within their sphere of influence to increase patient-provider interactions with BIPOC communities
