Course Objectives:
About 14% of couples will have difficulty in achieving pregnancy. Evaluation and treatment of infertility can be stressful, time consuming and costly both to individuals and the health care system. This activity will address recommendations for timing of evaluation, guidelines for general testing of the infertile couple and consideration of a role for targeted testing in some. Primary care treatments and when to refer to a specialist will be reviewed. As egg freezing has increased in both success and popularity, a review of its clinical utility with emphasis on patient counseling will also be discussed. Upon completion of the activity, providers should be able to:
• Define infertility and recognize the impact on age on both incidence and evaluation of this disorder, including the interpretation of ovarian reserve testing;
• Initiate appropriate evaluation and treatment in the primary care setting;
• Review current specialist interventions;
• Counsel patients about the judicious use of egg freezing.

Credits will be archived for 6 years.
