Conference Overview :
This webinar is designed to provide a brief overview of the forms of omega-3 fatty acids available in supplement and prescription forms, and their proposed physiologic effects. Major barriers that prevent patients from using fish oil and the importance of patient education to improve treatment outcomes will be examined. In addition, recent research regarding the potential of omega-3 fatty acids for reducing the risk of coronary heart disease and cardiovascular disease and their role in childhood asthma/allergies and depression will be highlighted.
Conference Objectives :
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:
• Identify common conditions in which fish oil (omega-3 fatty acids) has been shown to be beneficial
• Demonstrate knowledge of fish oil's efficacy and safety when used at evidence-based doses
• Characterize the major barriers that prevent patients from using fish oil optimally, and create strategies to overcome those barriers
• Differentiate among fish oil sources and products
• Examine the importance of patient education and awareness in improving treatment outcomes
