Course Description:
As the leading cause of disability among individuals aged 15-44 years in the United States, the prevalence of depression is high, yet many individuals are not treated effectively. Although there are many medications used in the treatment of depression, the process of selecting or changing therapies can be challenging as both patient and medication factors need to be considered. Pharmacists should be adept at addressing challenges by counseling patients to set realistic expectations and stressing the importance of adherence.

Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:
• Explain daily challenges of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) and the impact on patients’ ability to seek treatment
• Examine current and novel approaches to treat MDD
• Analyze recent clinical data to support treatment options in MDD
• Identify appropriate counseling points to improve outcomes for patients with MDD
