Course Description:
Human trafficking is a widespread form of slavery that exists today, even within the United States. Victims of human trafficking come in all sexes, genders, nationalities, and ethnicities. Modern slavery includes sex trafficking, and domestic, industrial, or farm labor; however, the majority of victims in the United States are unwilling participants in the sex trade. This module covers the information, tools, and resources for the healthcare team to identify, assess, and treat victims of human trafficking, and provides referral resources for legal and social services.

Goal and Learning Outcomes:
The goal of this human trafficking continuing education program is to provide Florida nurses and other healthcare professionals with information, tools, and resources to identify, assess, and treat human trafficking victims and to provide referral resources for legal and social services.
After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
• Describe the types of, risk factors for, and extent of human trafficking in the U.S., particularly Florida
• Discuss the role and responsibilities of nurses and the interprofessional healthcare team in the recognition, assessment, and treatment of the victim of trafficking, including management of medical records, patient safety, and referral sources
• Identify reporting and referral resources for victims of human trafficking
