Course Overview:
Human papillomavirus is the only known cause of cervical cancer in women. The same virus that has afflicted women for centuries has now been linked to a worldwide epidemic of human papillomavirus-associated throat cancer in young men. The rates of infection-associated carcinoma are alarming. While much is known about this HPV virus, little is known or understood about this new epidemic that is now the leading cause of oral and throat cancers, particularly among young men. Compelling questions and answers related to virus transmission, prevention, early detection, and treatment options are covered in this comprehensive course. This MOOC is designed to educate physicians, physician's assistants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals (i.e. medical assistants, dentists, etc.) on this worldwide epidemic, as well as anyone who wishes to expand his or her knowledge about this disease.
