This webinar is the second in a two-part series discussing the application of the 2018 PADIS guidelines (“Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Pain, Agitation/Sedation, Delirium, Immobility, and Sleep Disruption in Adult Patients in the ICU”) to critical care nursing practice. The updated PADIS guidelines incorporate recommendations related to enhancing patient mobility and sleep. In this webinar, Brenda Pun – a leader in ABCDEF bundle implementation and 2018 PADIS guidelines committee member – explores the guidelines’ recommendations for managing immobility and sleep disruption. Pun will also present a case study and discuss integrating mobility and sleep promotion as part of the ABCDEF bundle. A separate on-demand webinar from Feb. 2019 reviews the guideline recommendations for pain, agitation, and delirium.

Objectives:

• Discuss how the five components of the new PADIS guidelines (pain, agitation, delirium, immobility, and sleep disruption) are interrelated.
• Apply the criteria for starting or stopping mobilization to the care of patients in your unit.
• Identify two factors that commonly disrupt sleep for patients in the intensive care unit and at least one strategy for mitigating each one.
