Description:
This activity was planned with a goal to change your competence in using coronary artery calcium scores in intermediate-risk and borderline-risk patients. This case was created in response to the 2019 ACC/AHA Guideline on the Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease.

Learner Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, you should be able to:
• Recognize the appropriate clinical scenario where coronary artery calcium (CAC) scans can aid in risk stratification of patients for primary prevention statin therapy.
• Interpret and apply results from CAC scans in patients with intermediate or borderline atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk in consideration of primary prevention statin therapy.
• Counsel patients on the risks and potential benefits of a diagnostic CAC scan.
• Consider possible gender differences when deciding whether to initiate primary prevention statin therapy.
