GLP-1 Receptor Agonists and Basal Insulin Combination : A Complementary Strategy for Type 2 Diabetes Treatment Intensification is organized by Pri-Med and would be held during Jun 30, 2016 - Jun 30, 2017. Mary Lindholm, MD, of UMass Medical Center, along with faculty Intekhab Ahmed, MD, FACE, FACP, of Thomas Jefferson University, and Felice Caldarella, MD, FACE, FACP, CDE, of Hunterdon Medical Center, discuss how and when providers should consider adding a GLP-1 receptor agonist to basal insulin for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. They will discuss the differences between short-acting and long-acting GLP-1 receptor agonists and the practical aspects of adding a GLP-1 receptor agonist to basal insulin therapy, as well as the latest data on emerging fixed-ratio formulations of GLP-1 receptor agonists and basal insulin.
Objectives :
• Apply current ADA/EASD recommendations for determining A1c and glucose targets, and implementing timely therapy intensification, in the management of patients with type 2 diabetes
• Compare and contrast the clinical profiles of the different GLP-1 receptor agonists and assess their utility in reducing postprandial glucose
• Evaluate current data on fixed ratio combinations of GLP-1 RAs and basal insulin for the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes
• Formulate evidence-based treatment regimens that optimize control of both fasting and postprandial glucose in patients requiring therapy intensification.
