Course Description:
This course will provide a review of the principles of functional electrical stimulation (FES) and discuss the uses of FES in rehabilitation for persons with neurological injuries, focusing on FES for upper extremity, ambulation, and exercise. Specific treatment protocols will be provided. A review of current best evidence and several patient cases will be presented.
This online certificate course for Physical Therapists & Occupational Therapists is a learning module taught via on-demand streaming video. At the end of the course, there will be a quiz. Upon successful completion of the quiz, a certificate confirming completion of the Functional Electrical Stimulation in Neurorehabilitation course will be issued.
Course Objectives:
• Define functional electrical stimulation (FES)
• Identify the possible mechanisms for therapeutic benefit from FES
• Identify the common uses and methods for delivery of FES in neurological rehabilitation based on the current best evidence
• Develop a plan of care using FES based on actual patient cases.
