Course Description:
According to The Joint Commission as of January 1, 2019, five (5) new Joint Commission elements of performance (EPs) focused on fluoroscopy will become effective. The new and revised fluoroscopy requirements were developed based on risks identified by diagnostic imaging experts and accredited ambulatory care and hospital customers.
The new requirements are applicable to accredited to:
• Ambulatory care (AHC) organizations
• Office-based surgery (OBS) practices
• Hospital organizations that provide fluoroscopy services to their patients. 

This five part PowerPoint video presentation was developed and is narrated by Dr. Ben Archer and Dr. Louis Wagner who are internationally recognized medical physicists who have made countless contributions to the medical imaging community. Both Dr. Archer and Dr. Wagner have served as the RSO’s for large medical facilities and will assist you and your staff with these requirements and assist in your efforts to provide safe, effective patient care.

Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
• Use skills obtained in the use of medical fluoroscopy that will meaningfully contribute to the learner's ability to deliver the best care for patients and create the safest environment for staff
• Understand the use of radiation as a valuable medical tool that must be managed well to protect patients and staff
• Learn what Xrays are and how they are produced
• Understand how Xrays interact in patients during imaging
• Realize how radiation distributes itself in a room during imaging
• Understand the radiation quantities used to estimate potential health effects and estimate different types of risks
• Know how to use and limit these quantities effectively and safely
• Understand how patient size , and orientation and collimation of the beam affect radiation delivery
• Know how to use time, distance and shielding as protective tools
• Monitor radiation exposure for patient management and QC purposes
