Goal:
This activity will describe the federal regulations applicable to nuclear pharmacies administering radiopharmaceuticals and the management of hazardous pharmaceutical waste in accordance with United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.

Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Recognize the agencies that have legal authority over radiopharmaceuticals
  • List the requirements for nuclear pharmacists and pharmacies specified by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission
  • Define the classification of the different types of hazardous waste
  • Identify the requirements for managing non-creditable and creditable hazardous pharmaceutical waste
