Fat or Carbohydrate Restriction for the Treatment of Diabetes? is organized by Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) and will be held during Apr 08, 2015 - Mar 08, 2018. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 3.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Conference Description :
In Treatment of Diabetes (Part 1): The Look AHEAD Approach, John Foreyt, PhD will discuss the ways to improve type 2 diabetes through lifestyle changes, including a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Dr. Foreyt will also cover why dietary carbohydrate restriction is not required to see improvements in patients with type 2 diabetes, as well as the best predictor of microvascular and to a lesser extent, macrovascular complications in patients with type 2 diabetes is glycemic control.

In Treatment of Diabetes (Part 2): Low-glycemic Index, Kevin C. Maki, PhD, CLS, FNLA, FTOS will discuss the number of ways in which diabetes can be improved, including using a low-glycemic index diet. Dietary carbohydrate restriction is not required to see improvements in type 2 diabetes if the carbohydrates consumed have a low-glycemic index.

In Treatment of Diabetes (Part 3): Carbohydrate-restricted Approach, William Yancy, MD will describe the reasons that carbohydrate restriction can help eliminate the need for medication in people with type 2 diabetes and can reduce the amount of insulin required for people with type 1 diabetes. Dr. Yancy suggests that intensive glucose lowering by dietary carbohydrate restriction has no side effects comparable to the effects of intensive pharmacologic treatment.
