Goal:
To educate pharmacists on venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis in acute medically ill patients with a focus on VTE risk, prophylactic options, treatment guidelines, and current evidence.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
• Identify populations of patients who can benefit from primary prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism (VTE)
• Describe the risk factors associated with VTE in acute medically ill patients
• Calculate the level of VTE risk in acute medically ill patients
• Discuss available evidence on extended-duration VTE prophylaxis
• Interpret ongoing evidence regarding the use of new agents and risk factors to consider for extended-duration VTE prophylaxis
