Evidence-Based Psychotherapy Treatment Planning is organized by Psychotherapy.net.
Course Description:
Tim Bruce and Art Jongsma make quite a team throughout this video series on evidence-based treatment planning. Decades of field experience has given them a wealth of historical data and applied knowledge to draw from as they present their findings on empirically supported treatments and offer their unique perspective on the treatment-planning process—a welcome breath of fresh air in its easy-to-grasp simplicity (that still allows for individual tailoring).
The hosts begin this in-depth series with a presentation of the basics, including the history of the movement to identify ESTs and its development over time. You’ll understand the distinguishing features of “well-established” and “probably efficacious” treatment (with definitions and examples of efficacy, effectiveness, and clinical utility), and you’ll get useful resources for further exploration. They move on to the principles of evidence-based practice (EBP), recommending an integration of ESTs, staying abreast of timely research, and establishing an empathic therapeutic alliance. Going deeper still, they offer insights on both the advantages and limitations of ESTs, and give you the essential elements of treatment planning, including how to empirically inform them.
Learning Objectives:

• Understand the key role of APA Division 12 in the movement to identify ESTs.
• Identify the distinguishing features of “well-established” and “probably efficacious” treatment.
• Learn how to create a six-step treatment plan informed by the latest empirical research.
