Erectile dysfunction affects more than 18 million American men, with some estimates projecting that by 2025 the worldwide prevalence will approach 322 million. Unfortunately, the stigma and fear of humiliation have kept this highly treatable condition in the closet for many years. Far beyond embarrassing moments, ED can crush self-esteem, damage personal relationships, and sometimes signal the presence of serious health problems. Evidence-based research has identified many options for treating ED. Healthcare providers can help men and their partners learn about the effectiveness, potential adverse effects, and cost of each treatment option available to them.

Goal and Learning Outcomes:
The goal of this continuing education program is to increase healthcare professionals’ knowledge of erectile dysfunction, including its pathophysiology, medical and surgical treatment options, and the healthcare professional’s role in patient education. After studying the information presented, you will be able to:
• Explain the pathophysiology of at least three causes of ED
• Describe at least four treatment options for ED
• Discuss the healthcare professional’s role in assessing for ED and teaching patients and their partners about treatment
