OVERVIEW

This online CME/CE course focuses on environmental emergencies and is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the essential knowledge and skills necessary to assess and manage cases resulting from various environmental factors. Environmental emergencies, which encompass incidents resulting from extreme weather conditions, toxic exposures, wilderness accidents, and other external environmental hazards, are becoming increasingly relevant in the context of climate change, urbanization, and global travel. Prompt recognition and intervention are critical to mitigating the impact of these emergencies on patient health outcomes.

Participants in this course will explore a wide range of environmental conditions such as hypothermia, heatstroke, frostbite, lightning injuries, envenomations, submersion injuries, and toxic ingestions. Emphasis is placed on practical strategies for early identification, initial stabilization, evidence-based treatment, and appropriate referral or observation protocols. This course is ideal for clinicians in emergency, pediatric, family, internal, and critical care medicine who frequently encounter patients in acute care settings. Learners will leave this course with enhanced confidence and competence in delivering effective and timely interventions in environmentally induced medical emergencies.
