OVERVIEW

EMBL Conference: BioMalPar XVI: Biology and Pathology of the Malaria Parasite is organized by the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL. The symposium is held from May 18 - 20, 2020.

Description:
Malaria remains is the prominent global public health challenge, with more than 200 million clinical cases worldwide each year. The shortage of an effective licensed vaccine and the continual emergence of drug-resistant malaria parasites create a search for novel control and prevention methods more important than ever. Additionally, to obtain malaria elimination, we need the generation of fundamental principles to promote the development of innovative tools for intervention. Malaria research is a profoundly collaborative field that relies on the addition of unique resources, technologies, and biological advances. Convenience and timely sharing of these accommodations through the establishment of new collaborations is important for their translation into public health impact.

The 16th BioMalPar conference at EMBL Heidelberg will address fundamental questions of the biology of the malaria parasite, its vector, the immune response of the host, the disease that it caused, and the latest technological approaches. The conference series has raised on the success of the EU-funded Networks of Excellence EviMalaR and BioMalPar and, for one and a half decades, has produced together malaria researchers from around the world to present and share recent ground-breaking decisions on fundamental malaria research in an integrated and highly collaborative environment. In keeping with the traditions of BioMalPar and EviMalaR, with importance on training and networking, the meeting will focus on allowing speaking opportunities for early-stage researchers.

Session Topics:
• Immunology and vaccine development
• Epidemiology and surveillance
• Pathogenesis and host-pathogen interactions
• "Omics" approaches and evolution
• Parasite biology
• Emerging challenges and new tools
• Transmission biology

Additional details will be posted as soon as information is available.
