Course Description:
The session will be broken up into three main parts and speakers: 1) The State of Diversity, Inclusion and Representation in Radiation Oncology: History, Trends and where we are today: how we got to where we are; history, trends, influencers and drivers; 2) Leveraging Diversity and Inclusion: Leadership Lessons from outside of Radiation Oncology including lessons from other enterprises, such as industry, entertainment, technology, education, government, military, other medical specialties; how organizational cultures promote diversity and sustain inclusion; 3) Creating and Leading Successful Diversity Initiatives within Radiation Oncology: Diversity and inclusion as guiding lights for top management in leading medical organizations, such as academic medical centers, medical specialty societies, and large health care organizations: a call to action.
Learning Objectives:
After this session, attendees should be able to:
• Describe trends in historical and current representation in physician workforce diversity in radiation oncology.
• Identify the potential barriers to diversity and inclusion in training, professional development, and career advancement in radiation oncology.
• Determine and implement potential interventions and solutions to diversity and inclusion into departments, training and practice.
