Diagnostic Challenges in Prostate Pathology is organized by United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) and will be held from Jan 08, 2018 - Oct 20, 2020.

Target Audience:
Practicing academic and community pathologists, and pathologists-in-training

Continuing Medical Education and Continuing Certification:
The United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology designates this enduring material for a maximum of 3.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity 

Physicians can earn a maximum of 3.75 SAM credit hours.

Course Description:
Specimens obtained from prostate needle core biopsies, transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) and radical prostatectomy are frequently handled in both academic institutions and private practices by general surgical pathologists and/or urologic pathologists. These specimens still continue to pose diagnostic challenges in day to day practice. We will select cases that illustrate recurrent diagnostic problems and challenges in prostate pathology, and discuss how to approach them and make accurate diagnoses. 

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this educational activity, learners will be able to:
• Become familiar with benign mimickers of prostate cancer
• Recognize variants of prostate cancer and secondary tumors involving the prostate
• Become familiar with issues and pitfalls regarding staging of prostate cancer
• Recognize variants of prostate cancer and associated mimickers.
• Understand the clinical implications and appropriate management of HGPIN and atypical glands (ASAP) detected on prostate needle biopsy
• Become familiar with the diagnostic pitfalls in diagnosing unusual variants of prostate cancer
• Discuss the recently updated definition of prostate cancer grading patterns, its applicability and the new grading system
