Diagnosis & Differential Diagnosis of NMOSD

The Guthy-Jackson Charitable Foundation (GJCF) NMOSD Grand Rounds program aims to inform practicing neurology specialists as well as the broader spectrum of neurologists and allied healthcare providers regarding latest information in evidence-based science and medicine of NMOSD. This program features 12 essential topics addressed by experts in the field at a monthly interval.  Organized and curated by GJCF advisors, this series of educational webinars enables continuing medical education (CME) credit.  

Session entitled “Diagnosis & Differential Diagnosis of NMOSD” is designed to update knowledge important for recognition of clinical, imaging, and laboratory characteristics of NMOSD.  Application of this knowledge is intended to aid early and accurate recognition of NMOSD and distinguishing it from closely related disorders such as MOGAD or MS.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, learners will be able to: 

                1. Describe the current diagnostic criteria for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder(NMOSD).

                 2. Differentiate NMOSD from multiple sclerosis (MS) and myelin oligodendrocyteglycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD) using clinical, radiologic, andlaboratory features.

                 3. Identify clinical and MRI red flags suggestive of alternative diagnoses or mimics ofNMOSD.

                 4. Apply appropriate AQP -IgG and MOG-IgG antibody testing strategies in the diagnosticevaluation of suspected NMOSD.
