Course Description:
Heart failure is common in the United States, affecting about 6.5 million adults. Although nearly 1 million new cases are diagnosed annually, delays in diagnosis are frequent. Patients who are at risk for heart failure do not often receive appropriate recommended testing. And when diagnosed, heart failure is often misclassified or not classified, which can lead to mismanagement. This activity will examine considerations for diagnosis and classification of heart failure in the primary care setting.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Recognize patients who have risk factors for HF.
• Integrate testing into the decision-making process to diagnose chronic HF and acute HF.
• Summarize ACC/AHA and NYHA HF classification criteria.
