Description:
Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is defined by the presence of the triad of hyperglycemia, anion gap metabolic acidosis and ketonemia. This interactive lecture uses patient case scenarios to teach current evidenced-based guidelines for the management goals of DKA toward early diagnosis, reducing acidosis by expanding the intravascular volume, key laboratory values and insulin administration. Comprehensive treatment strategies are discussed and are available for the attendees to bring back to their own unit.
