Program Overview:
Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is an intestinal disease that primarily affects premature and medically fragile infants. NEC causes an inflammatory process that can lead to intestinal tissue damage and death. 

This program discusses the value of using data to define NEC. It covers different staging criteria options that could be used for NEC and discusses how we can move forward in NEC treatment and research.

This presentation was originally given during the 2019 NEC Symposium in Ann Arbor, MI. The symposium focused on breaking down the barriers of NEC prevention and treatment. It provided the setting for discovery, collaboration, and sustained partnerships on patient-centered research.
