Description:
In this time of uncertainty, major change, and vulnerability for our students and families creating deeper understanding and connection is vital to establishing rapport and developing effective interventions. How we approach any given situation must start with looking at ourselves and our TAACKT: Trust, Awareness, Assumptions, Communication, Knowledge, Teaching while working with students, families, and staff members from diverse backgrounds. In this session, we will look at ourselves, let go of preconceived beliefs, and outlined in developing individualized culturally competent nursing process steps in the school setting. Stepping into and embracing our leadership while bringing our best to the table. We will engage in dynamic discussion, participate in discovery exercises and develop a plan of committed action moving forward. Walking away from this session, we will stand tall with open hearts and minds to best meet our school community's needs.

Learning Outcomes
As a result of participating in this educational program, learners will be able to: 

  • Identify one cultural knowledge gap and one hidden bias.
  • Discover how stepping into Cultural Inclusivity will impact your School Nursing practice to the benefit of the entire school community.
  • Share at least two ways they will incorporate cultural awareness into daily Health Office practice.
