Course Overview:
Crisis Intervention is psychotherapy that focuses on acute critical situations with the aim of restoring the person to the level of functioning before the crisis. Crises are emotionally hazardous situations that place victims at high risk for maladaptive coping or even for being immobilized. Responding quickly, efficiently, and effectively are the primary objectives of an effective crisis solution and the focus of this course.
Course Objectives:
• The clinician will be able to break down the differences between crisis intervention and problem solving.
• The clinician will be able to explain crisis intervention theory.
• The clinician will be able to differentiate how cultural sensitivity plays a role in effective crisis intervention.
• The clinician will be able to examine how proper diagnoses plays a role in crisis intervention resolution.
• The clinician will be able to describe the steps involved in crisis intervention.
