Course Description:
This module provides hematology/oncology pharmacists with comprehensive guidance on verifying an entire chemotherapy order. The module begins with an overview of existing standards on best practices for the safe use of chemotherapy and biological agents and is followed by a discussion on key pieces to extract while reviewing patient charts. Critical components of a chemotherapy order are also discussed at length. Arpita S. Gandhi PharmD, BCOP also reviews tertiary resources to quickly validate chemotherapy regimens, appropriate use of anti-emetics and other pre-medications, reviewing necessary pre-chemotherapy labs, sequence of chemotherapy administration, appropriate use of growth factors, and appropriate prescribing of home medications. Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to quickly navigate through a chemotherapy order and validate the regimen in addition to related supportive care orders seamlessly.
