Description:
Hyperkalemia is one of the most common electrolyte abnormalities in patients with advanced stage CKD and ESRD. Due to its potential to induce malignant arrhythmias, severe hyperkalemia requires immediate intervention. This program will share updates on the most recent advances relevant to the role of decreased kidney function and ancillary comorbid conditions in the development of hyperkalemia, the association of hyperkalemia with adverse outcomes, and the currently available treatment regimens for acute and chronic hyperkalemia management and their potential impact on outcomes such as quality control measures and patient satisfaction.

Learning Objectives:
After participation in this activity, learners will be better able to:
• Review the physiology of potassium homeostasis and the pathophysiology and epidemiology of hyperkalemia
• Describe the interventions available for the treatment of acute and chronic hyperkalemia and their potential impact on patient outcomes and measures of quality of care
• Examine the comparative efficacy and safety of potassium binders available for the treatment of hyperkalemia and their potential impact on patient outcomes and measures of quality of care

Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
