This course provides nurses with methods to calm patients with cognitive decline.

Goals and Learning Outcomes:
Caring for a cognitively impaired patient can be extremely difficult for healthcare professionals, families, and caregivers. While medical intervention may be necessary at times, you should understand the types of alternative therapies available that can improve not only cognition but also a patient’s overall quality of life. This course provides nurses with methods to calm patients with cognitive decline.

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe common behavioral and psychological symptoms exhibited by patients with cognitive decline.
  • Identify non-pharmacologic calming strategies that can benefit patients with cognitive decline.
  • Review nursing considerations for implementing calming interventions.
