Basic Psychiatric Concepts in Nursing is organized by Western Schools and will be held from Oct 05, 2018 - Oct 31, 2021. This Conference has been approved for a maximum of 4.00 Contact Hours.

Description:
Teaches basic psychiatric concepts, disorders, treatment modalities, therapeutic communication skills, medications, and cultural variances in how mental illness is perceived and treated in adults and children. Designed for the practicing registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical or vocational nurse (LPN or LVN), this course educates nurses by updating their mental health skills and knowledge of current psychiatric treatments. Also examines broad categories of psychiatric disorders reflective of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th ed. (DSM-5).

Course Objectives:
• Explore ethical, legal, and cultural issues associated with mental health care and treatment.
• Describe components for obtaining a relevant psychiatric history.
• Describe symptoms associated with common adult and child psychiatric disorders per the DSM-5.
