• Describe thermal and mechanical effects of ultrasound energy; • Define MI and TI and the goal for monitoring indices during sonographic examinations; • Briefly review the epidemiologic, animal, and in-vitro studies of ultrasound bioeffects; • State limitations of the current evidence regarding ultrasound bioeffects; • Specify responsible ALARA actions that minimize the potential for bioeffects; and • Personally assess perspective and responsibility regarding ultrasound bioeffects.
