AHRO Masterclass on Obesity in Pregnancy is organized by AHRO Center for Academic Research, AHRO University.

Description:
This course is designed to assist the learners to provide appropriate resources and support to gain knowledge on successful approaches to achieve a healthy weight before conception, maintain a healthy rate of weight gain during pregnancy and attain a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI) postpartum. Also, this course will teach them treatment modalities for obesity include lifestyle changes, medical management and even surgery, all of which have the potential to impact future pregnancies and reproductive health in general. 

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, learners will be able to:

  • Review the classification, pathophysiology & epidemiological aspects of obesity in pregnancy.
  • Prevent the consequences of pre-gestational obesity.
  • Manage the maternal and fetal effects of obesity in pregnancy.
  • Identify the indications for using bariatric surgery to manage obesity in a patient who desires future fertility.
  • Reflect on how implicit bias impacts the delivery of care to pregnant obese women.
  • Analyse the weight loss strategies in pre-pregnancy and post-partum periods.

Course Content:

  • Review of Introduction and Pathophysiology and consequences of gestational obesity
  • Review of complications of gestational obesity using evidence-based practice
  • Review of management using evidence-based practice
