Program Description:
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health is concerned about the risk and exposure of health care workers who handle, prepare, or administer hazardous drugs (HDs), such as chemotherapeutic agents, or those who work in areas where these drugs are used. Due to potential health risks associated with unintentional exposure to these agents, it is necessary to implement proper policies and procedures for safe handling, from delivery through disposal. Advancements in technology may help diminish exposure of HDs to health care professionals. This program will explain novel technologies and highlight best practices and appropriate measures to prevent unintentional exposure to HDs.

Educational Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
• Characterize the risks of unintentional exposure to chemotherapeutic agents
• Examine how dose banding and ready-to-administer technology may provide clinical and safety benefits
• Analyze novel technology that is available to prevent unintentional exposure to chemotherapeutic agents
