Advancing Equity through Interprofessional Education: A Story of Organizational Change at AIHM is organized by Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine (AIHM).
Description:
Structural racism and systemic inequities continue to impact healthcare access, patient outcomes, and the integration of diverse health perspectives. This course explores how AIHM has actively addressed these challenges through interprofessional education and organizational change.
Participants will analyze the barriers that perpetuate bias within healthcare structures, including credentialing, power hierarchies, and Euro-Western knowledge dominance. The course outlines AIHM’s steps toward advancing justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI), including curriculum reform, leadership initiatives, and health equity training programs.
By the end of this session, participants will understand how structural transformation in medical education and professional collaboration can drive Whole Health equity across diverse communities.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Recognize the barriers and challenges within the medical system and organizational structures that perpetuate bias and limit integrative health equity.
- Discuss the process and steps undertaken by AIHM’s leadership to advance health equity within this organization and member institutions.
- Explain that justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) are fundamental to advancing Whole Health across communities.
