A Plant-Based Nutrition Prescription for your DSMES Program is organized by Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (ADCES).

Intended Audience:
The AADE Webinars are knowledge-based activities designed for individual or groups of diabetes educators, including RNs, RDs, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, MDs, and other health care providers interested in staying up to date on current practices of care for their patients with diabetes and other related conditions.

Accreditation Information:
Registered Nurses:

The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. This program provides 1.5 contact hours of continuing education credit. 

Registered Dietitians:
The American Association of Diabetes Educators (AM001) is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). CDR Credentialed Practitioners will receive 1.5 Continuing Professional Education units (CPEUs) for completion of this activity/material. Continuing Professional Education Provider Accreditation does not constitute endorsement by CDR of a provider, program, or materials.

Registered Pharmacists:
The American Association of Diabetes Educators is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This program provides 1.50 contact hours (0.15 CEUs) of continuing education credit. 

Overview:
Plant-based eating patterns have gained a lot of interest in the general population. Diabetes educators are responsible for providing evidence-based healthy eating education while individualizing therapy for the prevention and management of diabetes. In this webinar, you will gain the knowledge and skills required to be able to educate people with diabetes on how to adopt a healthy plant-based eating pattern that is acceptable, sustainable, and nutritionally adequate.

Learning Outcome:
Learners will have increased knowledge about the health benefits of plant-based nutrition for the prevention and management of diabetes, and will also gain skills on how to implement a plant-based eating pattern as an educational option in their practice, while respecting individual food preferences and individualizing therapy.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
• Describe how vegan and vegetarian eating patterns reduce the risk of diabetes as well as other chronic diseases.
• List specific components in food that increase or reduce risk of diabetes.
• Describe a healthy plant-based eating pattern.
• Explain how to implement a vegan eating pattern into clinical practice.
