Description:
“Mental disorders among children are described as serious changes in the way children typically learn, behave, or handle their emotions, which cause distress and problems getting through the day. It is highly recommended that the mothers of a child or adolescent with a mental health disorder be as involved in the treatment as possible.
The content in this course is applicable to occupational therapy professionals.

Objectives:
The goal of this occupational therapy for mothers continuing education program is to explain why when treating pediatric clients with mental health disorders an occupational therapy evaluation and intervention should include the occupations embedded in the role of mother or whomever serves as the primary caregiver. After taking this course, you should be able to:

• Identify why addressing the needs of mothers is essential to the progress of children in treatment.
• Verbalize how using an Occupational Profile is a critical element in the evaluation and intervention process for pediatric occupational therapy.
• Apply the new Occupational Therapy Practice Framework to support greater normalizing routines, habits and rituals for mothers of hard-to-parent children
