Description:
This course is a webinar designed for those new to the NICU setting.  It will introduce the participant to the basic foundation needed to safely treat this highly specialized population. Learn appropriate developmental care philosophy and terminology. Understand the proper positioning and cues related to handling fragile infants.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Name 4 modifications that can be made to your unit that will impact the culture of applying a family centered, developmental care philosophy, thus improving the short- and long-term outcomes of infants and caregivers.
  2. List 3 areas of critical information needed to safely treat the NICU population.
  3. List the principles of good postural alignment in 4 basic positions and be able to make adjustments based on unique challenges or individual preferences.
  4. Recognize the 3 differences in infant cues exhibited by the infant during handling and able to modulate treatment interventions appropriately.

This is a 3-contact hour course equivalent to 3 CEU’s or 0.3 CEUs offered as a live webinar or self-study.
