Description:
The purpose of this course is to review feeding behaviors and habits of children with Autism, as well as the brain/gut relationship and nutritional implications for feeding. Participants will be instructed on how to create appropriate plans of care and intervention for feeding specifically for the ASD population, with emphasis on nutrition. The focus of this course is knowledge acquisition and application of interventions to improve feeding behaviors and nutritional consumption for optimal cognitive and behavioral functioning. Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

Correctly interpret common feeding problem in children with ASD related to gut/brain connection and gastrointestinal factors.
Correctly analyze the brain/gut connection, specifically identifying how foods (nutrients) impact neural functioning.
Distinguish the role of food/nutrition in feeding therapy for children with ASD.
Interpret food/nutrition recommendations into feeding therapy intervention.
Apply multiple interventions and treatment that are being studied currently for treatment of gastrointestinal dysfunction in children with ASD based on nutrition.
