Overview :
This activity provides important information about assessment, risk stratification, and management of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity who are at increased risk of developing cardiovascular complications. Evidence-based recommendations and guidelines for lifestyle interventions and pharmacologic management of these patients will be explored through a discussion of these common patient presentations.
Learning Objectives :
• Identify risk factors associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), obesity, and cardiovascular disease so as to determine and stratify treatment approaches that reduce risk and improve patient outcomes
• Establish clinical priorities for the management of glycemic issues commonly seen in the complex cardiometabolic patient, while considering important interrelationships that may impact your choice of treatment plans
• Apply evidence-based guidelines in determining how to best incorporate nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic therapies in a patient not at target goals and in the midst of comorbid issues including obesity, cardiovascular problems, and impaired renal function
