OVERVIEW

Vaccination plays a crucial role in preventing serious childhood illnesses, reducing healthcare costs, and promoting public health. Each year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) release updated pediatric immunization schedules based on the latest scientific evidence, safety data, and population health trends.

This CME/CE course—Part 2 in a two-part series—focuses on the 2024 pediatric immunization schedule for children and adolescents between 18 months and 18 years of age. The course provides detailed instruction on age-appropriate vaccine administration, schedule adherence, and clinical applications of the most recent updates. Whether in routine wellness visits or catch-up scenarios, the goal is to prepare providers to deliver timely and accurate vaccination guidance that meets public health requirements and individual patient needs.

Participants will gain an understanding of significant changes from the 2023 to 2024 immunization guidelines, including updates to HPV and meningococcal vaccine timing, refinements to Tdap booster spacing, and new insights on influenza and COVID-19 vaccination recommendations. Special attention is given to catch-up protocols for patients who have missed prior vaccines, including those transitioning between providers or entering school systems with incomplete records.

The course also addresses common barriers to pediatric immunization, such as vaccine hesitancy, misinformation, and logistical challenges in vaccine tracking. Learners will receive practical tools for counseling families, understanding contraindications and precautions, and implementing standing orders and EMR-based reminders.

By the end of this course, clinicians will be equipped with a thorough understanding of the 2024 pediatric schedule and how to implement it within family practice, pediatric, or school-based settings to ensure complete and timely immunization coverage.
