Course Description & Information:
This course is designed to provide the participant with a more in-depth discussion of functional relationships in order to vary and advance exercise progression beyond basic therapeutic exercise. The course will define and discuss various components of function as it applies to rehabilitation, take a fresh look a movement, present the four pillars of human movement, discuss training in the context and the role of gravity ground reaction forces and momentum for true functional movement and exercise. This course will review and discuss the functional biomechanics and anatomy of the lower extremity plane by plane and joint by joint to provide the participant with a greater understanding of not just treating symptoms but finding causes and developing exercise in a functional multi-planar approach. Whether you work with young, older or athletic patients the information in this course will greatly enhance and expand your understanding of function and exercise progression and bring new and exciting ideas to your care.

Course Objectives:

  • Define function for purpose of rehabilitation and fitness.
  • Discuss isolation versus integrated approach to rehabilitation and fitness.
  • Discuss and define the functional spectrum for exercise progression.
  • Discuss the characteristics of the human body and the operational environment in relation to the application of functional exercise.
  • Discuss the four pillars of human movement and how to incorporate into your program.
  • Discuss why you need to consider gravity, ground reaction forces and momentum when designing functional exercise.
  • Review the functional biomechanics and anatomy and discuss the relationship to various pathology and exercise progression.
  • Discuss basic functional tests and how to objectively document.
