10 Cases of Fever - 10 Lessons Learned is organized by Southern Medical Association (SMA) and will be held from Dec 14, 2018 - Dec 14, 2019. 

Target Audience:
This activity is intended for primary care physicians, hospitalists, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. Other healthcare providers with an interest in adult immunizations may also benefit from the information presented.

Credits Available:
Southern Medical Association designates this enduring material for a maximum of  .75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

All healthcare professionals who are not MDs or DOs will receive a certificate of participation.

Goals and Objectives:|
Fever is a hallmark of inflammation but its presence does not mean that there is an infection as the cause. The workup of a fever can also be perplexing to both patients and clinicians. Optimal evaluation of fevers can potentially reduce costs and may improve care by hastening the time to obtain an accurate diagnosis and initiate treatment. This session will use cases to illustrate how to approach the febrile patient, especially when a diagnosis is elusive. At the conclusion of the session, learners should be better prepared to:

• Recognize the most important characteristics of fever in puzzling cases;
• Appropriately work up patients presenting with fever;
• Determine infectious and noninfectious causes of fever using various laboratory tests.
