MANDATORY WEST VIRGINIA NURSING CEU. 2-hour continuing education course on how to assess and determine risk for suicide among veterans. Includes prevention strategies, management of at-risk patients, and an overview of treatment guidelines. Meets mental health conditions common to veterans and family members of veterans requirement.

Course Learning Objectives:
1) Discuss the epidemiology of suicidal behavior among veterans.
2) Summarize the etiology, risk, and protective factors for suicide.
3) Describe mental health issues related to suicide by military personnel.
4) Discuss how clinicians can recognize suicide risk.
5) Summarize the steps involved in assessing an at-risk individual.
6) Discuss patient disposition according to the level of risk.
