Description:
In this module participants will explore how developing a solution focused mindset and skills can improve the quality of care they provide and the quality of the experience they have as professionals. We will explore what compassion is, where it comes from, how to develop and express it and what prevents us from feeling or expressing compassion in our work environments. Participants will learn and use self-reflective practice models that can be easily integrated into their professional practice and help facilitate behavior change. This session will give professionals the tools they need to best support patients and clients to improve their health and well-being, while addressing compassion fatigue to foster well-being and longevity in the dynamic healthcare environment.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of this module, participants will be able to:
• Identify elements that contribute to a compassionate health care environment.
• Describe how solution focused communication strategies demonstrate compassion and lead to patient engagement.
• Explore the value of self-reflective practice on patient care, professional satisfaction and mitigation of compassion fatigue.
• Access new resources for further learning about compassionate communication and prevention of compassion fatigue.
Module Structure:
This module is self-paced and available to any user who registers with the Maine Medical Association Learning Lab. The estimated time to complete is approximately 90 minutes. The module will consist of multiple sub-sections or units and will contain various elements, including hyperlinks to readings and web resources, video lessons, and pre-and post-assessments needed for CME accreditation.
