This course includes definitions of heart failure, classification systems for heart failure, assessment of signs and symptoms of heart failure, heart failure risk factors, and their prevention.
Heart failure (HF) definition:
Heart failure is also known as congestive heart failure. Fundamentally it is a condition in which the heart does not pump enough blood to fulfill the needs of the body.
That failure is due to one or both conditions:
HF is a complex clinical syndrome that results from any structural or functional impairment of ventricular filling or ejection of blood
Heart failure can be acute or chronic. Acute heart failure can be an emergency when the heart no longer can pump an adequate amount of blood and oxygen to the point of being life-threatening.
